Money is essential for any business. But it is an outcome and not the end in itself. While we do not entirely subscribe to the old saying of “Take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves”, we do believe that raising funds can be done well and ……….. not so well.
| Money is an outcome. As it is with any successful business. It may be the reason for working, but it comes more easily to those who aim to do things well. |
The activities of successful charities involve a high degree of emotional attachment from supporters. Such support wants to go on supporting you. Anything that you do to jeopardise that is bad news.
Yet many charities do just that by doing some, or maybe even all, of the following...
- They ask companies for money without considering that company officers’ obligations lie first with their own stakeholders. So the question you have to ask is “What can WE do for YOU? Give them a reason to support you as opposed to other equally worthy causes?
- They accept support but often forget to say thank you
- They keep insufficient records of who supported them and in what way i.e. inadequate database control
- They do not communicate with their database to tell them what is happening and what they have achieved with their support
- At an event – a dinner, a dance or a cabaret evening - they squeeze the attendees for everything that they can - a short term benefit, which fails to win friends and influence people.
So can we help you with this?
Well as we say, money is an outcome. As it is with any successful business. It may be the reason many work, but it comes more easily to those who do things well.
We will help you do things well. |
