Supporters Club Launches – Bill McLaren Foundation

April 30th, 2010
Bill McLaren was a man who represented all that is best about rugby union. He was known as “The Voice of Rugby” not just because of the beauty of his tone and the delight of his imaginative phrasing, but because he portrayed our game as we would always wish it to be.
With the support of his family, a Foundation has been set up in Bill’s name, which we invite you to help establish.
Your support will serve three purposes :
  • To develop and promote the sport of rugby union and its values
  • To encourage and provide sporting opportunities for young people
  • To create an educative centre which will include the Bill McLaren Archive
The Foundation have recently launched a Supporters’ Club, which we would ask you to consider joining.
The cost is a minimum of £20 per annum.  To do this, please visit their Justgiving address www.justgiving.com/billmclaren, their website – www.billmclarenfoundation.co.uk/support or download & complete this form.
For this – hopefully! – reasonable sum:
  • you are entitled to a “Supporters’ Club” certificate (If you would like this, please confirm by emailing us your address)
  • you will receive a Club newsletter. (you can unsubscribe now or later if you wish)
  • you will be the first to be informed of the latest discoveries from Bill’s archive
  • And the first to hear of new events and goings on throughout the Foundation
Even if you would prefer not to join up, we look forward to keeping you in touch and would ask you to tell all your friends about us.

Murrayfield Centenary Fund – Muirfield Golf Event

February 25th, 2010

The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers have donated the clubhouse and course for the whole day. The event, which will be played annually, is by invitation only and will feature teams of four players.

We’re delighted to be working with the Murrayfield Centenary Fund on their inaugural golf event – taking place for this first year at Muirfield on 21 October 2010.

The schedule for the day includes a hearty breakfast in the clubhouse, a fourball match and a late lunch  – in every sense we suspect. The prizegiving and dinner will take place in the clubhouse with speakers to entertain and educate.

The Murrayfield Centenary Fund is the Scottish Rugby Union’s own charity, set up in the Union’s centenary season 1972-73 to give assistance to injured players. Since its inception it has helped many players, whether with long-term or short-term injuries.

At this early stage we are delighted to receive expressions of interest.
